Supercast® SW20Swellable waterstops for in-situ concreteUsesIntegral sealing for construction joints in concrete cast in-situwhere conventional waterstops are impractical to usebecause of limited access.Convenient and problem solving in situations where aconventional waterstop would require complex shutteringTypical uses include secant piled and diaphragm walledbasements, pile caps and casting against old concrete.Supercast SW20 can provide simple solutions to detailingpipe entries, construction joints in the vertical plane and tokicker joints. Can be linked to Supercast PVC*† waterstops to give aneffective combination of waterstops which maintain networkcontinuity.Advantages Easy to install by bonding, nailing or casting into jointfaces Factory made connectors enable full integration ofSupercast SW20 and Supercast PVC networks Solves detailing problems in conjunction with SupercastPVC range Swelling properties unaffected by long term wet/dry cycling Tolerant of salts present in concrete and groundwater Sustains effective seal in wet conditionsStandards complianceSuitable for use in contact with potable water - Water ByelawsScheme Approved product: Listing No. 9312507.DescriptionThe Supercast SW20 is a swellable waterstop which can beinstalled and positively linked into conventional SupercastPVC waterstop networks. This allows the use of Supercast PVC for expansion jointsand Supercast SW20 for construction joints all the timemaintaining an integrated network. The Supercast SW20 is made from high performancesynthetic elastomer strips. The swelling action is the resultof contact between water and hydrophilic groups which arepart of the Supercast SW20 \'Basic Polymer\' molecularstructure. The hydrophilic groups are not subject to extraction or loss ofswelling performance by prolonged or repeated wetting. Thisis a unique feature of the basic polymer. Expansion of thewaterstop creates a positive pressure against the face of theconcrete joint, thus preventing water passing through theprotected joint.Design criteriaSupercast SW20 should be used to prevent the passage ofwater through non-movement joints in both new in-situ concreteand between new and existing concrete. Supercast SW20increases in volume in the range of up to 300% and gives aresistance to hydraulic heads of up to 100 metres.Swelling of Supercast SW20 in fresh concrete is minimaland most of the volume swell takes place after the initialsetting of the concrete has taken place.Supercast SW20 is suitable for application between existingand newly placed concrete where there is little or no steelcontinuity and therefore some small movement may occur.Supercast SW20 waterstops should be positioned to ensurethat a minimum of 70 mm cover of concrete is present toaccommodate pressure developed during the swellingprocess.
